FIFA U-17- India’s performance against USA: Review

India’s best is yet to come,

I would start by saying India were UNLUCKY.

If you did see the match make no mistake USA were far better team than India. But the 3–0 scoreline doesn’t do justice to India’s performance. Team India had their chances but couldn’t convert them. While USA converted their chances.

In the 1st half , a needless foul by Jitendra Singh in the penalty box led to a penalty. While I admit it was a penalty but must say US Captain Josh Sargent made a meal out of it. The penalty was very well taken though. The 1st half was quite balanced. Even though US are the superior team they couldn’t stamp their authority. Goalkeeper Dheeraj was without a doubt the standout performer.

USA started strongly in the 2nd half. They doubled the lead through Chris Durkin’s deflected strike. Despite having so many players Durkin was able to get a shot away that too it was deflected. Dheeraj could do nothing about it. Then following a defensive mix up India got a golden opportunity which Komal Thatal missed. That had to be 2–1. Ayo Akinola got a great chance to seal the match but he missed that too. Another great chance came India’s way via a corner but the bar prevented the ball from going in. The Americans went for a superb counter attack which led to the 3rd goal by Andrew Carlton. Team USA deserved to win but they never really outclassed the Indian team. There is still a lot of potential in these boys. Hopefully they get better & better in future. Let’s hope for better performance against Ghana & Columbia.

In conclusion

It was a historic day for the Indian football as they played in FIFA World Cup for the very first time. It should be a proud moment for every Indian.
